{Columba livia}

hello friends! i suppose this is my first blog, and i feel quite awkward.... kinda of like (picture the voice a pigeon would have...smokey? seedy?), "oh, heyyyy. my name is olivia & this is my first blooooooog." yeah, just like that. pictures make everything more fun to look at so after posting this i'll figure out how to slap a drawing on here for your viewing pleasure. i've decided it's time to start knitting for the fall and winter, so expect yarn-like progress photos soon, too!

brief history: i grew up watching pigeons circle my grandparents house and soar in for smooth landings on the pigeon houses in the backyard. we would take them all packed up in their crates and release them at the cemetery (many, many miles away from his house) on our way to the lake to go fishing. they'd be circling grandpa's house again by the time we got back in the late afternoon. it's fascinating how they always head right back home.... i like the way they sound. their latin binomial is "Columba livia." pigeons have been awarded medals for gallantry for being MESSENGERS in times of battle.

i'll spare you the details. long story short, i love pigeons and our names are practically the same, sans the o. visual communication & messages, drawings, paintings, knittings (haha-word?), & musings will most likely dominate this blog. have a loverly day!
